approaches

I have an eclectic and adaptable approach to counselling and I choose methods that I feel will most align with your needs and your level of comfort. Some of the perspectives I may bring into our sessions are listed below.

  • CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, views a persons behaviours, thoughts and emotions as connected. It is an evidence based approach that has been found to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

  • Family systems

Family Systems Theory views a person in the context of their position(s) in the family(ies) they grew up in. Its main concept is that the family is a system that is interconnected and that a change in one person’s behaviour will impact others in that system.

  • HOLISTIC

A Holistic approach considers a person as a whole being. It views a person as being made up of interdependent parts - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social. If there is imbalance in one part, it will impact the others.

  • Narrative

Narrative Therapy views the person as the expert in their own life. There is a focus on the stories a person has carried with them throughout their life and the meaning they have attached to them.

  • Person centred

In Person Centred Therapy, the client is empowered to be more directive in the therapeutic process while the therapist supports the client to resolve their own issues.

  • integrative

There is no one size fits all approach that will address the challenges a person may be experiencing. That is why I take time to get to know my clients so I can use my experience and insight to develop a customized and flexible blend of various approaches to best suit each client.
